The UGA Men’s Soccer Club has reigned since the 1970’s. It is comprised of top players from around the state, most of which turned down scholarship offers from other colleges and universities to attend UGA. It is the highest level of soccer available in the area. All members played for Classic I-II Club teams as well as Varsity High School Squads prior to attending UGA; many played in ODP and Super-Y leagues. It is highly competitive and very selective. Tryouts are held every fall semester and usually have turnouts reaching upwards of 100 prospective players. The Club generally carries 18-22 members.
The time commitment is similar to that of a Classic-I Club Team. The team holds practices 2-3 times a week and has games/tournaments nearly every weekend. The fall semester is the actual season where the goal is to make it to the NIRSA National Championships, where only the top 24 club teams from colleges and universites from around the country meet to crown a champion. The tournament is held in mid-November at changing locations across the country. The Spring semester is considered off-season with practices continuing every week and games and tournmaments scheduled throughout the semester. There are no practices, games, or tournaments during the summer.
The club hosts games at the new Club Sports Complex located just off Campus. Away games are against other university club teams usually in the Southeast. Travel generally does not exceed neighboring states. Team dues are collected every fall semester and vary depending on the number of members. Dues range from $200-$300 per member. Dues are used to cover the costs of fields, refs, uniforms, tournament fees, hotels, and other team travel expenses.
